Building ETLs for dimensions in SQL Server 2000 DTS almost always required writing time consuming ActiveX scripts for tasks such as checking and upserting records. With the entry of SQL Server 2005's Integration Services, these tasks have now become a series of clicks and drags. The article Populating Dimension Tables with the SCD Task, talks about how the Slowly Changing Dimension task allows you to create quick ETLs with ease.
