I've installed sqlserver 208(Katmai) in vista ultimate machine. But when I try to login to server using management studio it shows folowing message.

    TITLE: Connect to Server
    ------------------------------

    Cannot connect to YASITH-PC\YSSERVER.

    ------------------------------
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

I Installed sql server in mixmode and I have started sqlserver browser and sql server agent. Once I uninstalled and reinstalled again with different instance name. But always I got this message.

What is the reason for this problem ?

These are a few solutions that I could think up of, just try them out and see:

    1. In SQL Server Configuration Manager (Start -> Programs -> SQL Server "Katmai" -> Configuration Tools), under the SQL Server Native Configuration you would find Client Protocols. Enable Named Pipes.

    2. or Try switching off UAC on Windows Vista

    3. or I'm not quite sure there's a user provisioning tool for Windows Vista in SQL Server 2008. But you could try: Open the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration (Start -> Programs -> SQL Server "Katmai" -> Configuration Tools). See if there's a link called Add New Administrator. Click on that link and add all the privelges displayed on the left pane to the right pane.

Hope one of these solves your problem. Let me know of the status.

    Regards
